BRC ad un passo dal successo al Rally Madeira

BRC one step from success at Madeira Rally

Basso and Granai alone in charge at TER 2017

7 victories at preliminary stages have not been enough for Giandomenico Basso and Lorenzo Granai to succeed at Rally Vinho Madeira 2017.

BRC Gas Equipment team, driving Hyundai I20R5, carried out a masterful race, hardly struggling for the final victory until the last special stage. Basso and Granai only had to bend to the local drivers, well conscious of the challenges of the Portuguese island.

Weather conditions, unpredictable as never before, turned out to be determinant for the final result, with sudden changes where dry road stretches alternated with wet, rainy and very insidious areas.

BRC Gas Equipment team work has been overwhelming, both for the choice of the right tires and the optimal car set-up.

The good second place, few seconds from the winner, after the success in Romania and the sixth place in Ypres, allows Giandomenico Basso to consolidate the leading position in the Tour European Rally  and to confidently look ahead to the fourth event  at  the end of September in Austria, where Liezen Rally takes place.

Giandomenico Basso comments: “This year’s competition has been really tough. We started well and with the intention to fight for the best result. We suddenly won the first special, and thanks to other two successes, we ended the first loop of stage, leg one, in top spot. Unfortunately during nocturnal scretches, that took place with bad weather conditions, we needed to sacrifice too much time, and we lost the leading position.

We started the second stage very well, winning the first and the third specials and reducing the gap. Due to bad weather, we faced dry road stretches alternated to completely wet ones, and that was determinant for the final result. We had to compromise in the choosing of tires and the recovery regretfully vanished”.
